One Week Down

Today was my 6th session and tomorrow I get to go home!  Can't wait for that.  I haven't had any soreness or anything yet...other than my nose which is killing me from blowing my nose!

I asked the technicians if I could wait until the last possible moment to put my mouth appliance in and they gave me the green light.  This makes it far better, especially with a head cold and thinking I may not be able to breathe through my nose the whole time.  Today I listed to Elton John while having the treatment and even found myself doing a little toe tapping.  Helped pass the time!  Honestly the sessions are very quick.  I prefer to have morning sessions, so I can get in and get out and have the rest of my day free.  Not that I'm doing that much - but it's just nice.

This afternoon I had a massage by a student massage therapist.  She was very good and worked on my shoulders and back.  I felt like a puddle of goo when she was done, so I treated myself to a nice hot bubble bath.

For dinner tonight we had Moussaka or something like that - some Greek dish with eggplant.  Um, it was different and I now know I am not a huge fan of Moussaka.  The dessert was good though - even though it did look like to bulls balls covered in caramel...what a picture!

Did my first fluoride treatment tonight - the first of the rest of my life, or so they tell me.  Radiation weakens your teeth so the fluoride helps make them stronger.  I've never had a mouth guard in before - that is not something would want to do the rest of my life - oh wait, I have to do it the rest of my life.  I don't know how the boys did it playing hockey and football.  It's gross - but maybe it's something you get use to.

I took two nighttime Tylenol Cold pills tonight - maybe I'll sleep better than I did last night.

Can't wait for tomorrow because I get to go home!

Feb. 8/11

Woke up to a dripping nose in the night and stuffed up this morning.  My appointment for my treatment was a 9:40 - I was dreading it because of the stuffy nostrils and having to have the mask on with the mouth guard would not make it easy to breathe, if I couldn't breathe through my nose.

Everything went well.  I had to take my mouth guard out once to clear my throat, but other than that, sailed through another treatment.  I hope this keeps up!  I stopped at the hospital pharmacy and bought some cold medicine and ...kleenexs...and a gossip magazine...what more could a girl want?!

I booked in for a massage on Thursday afternoon.  Massage therapy students come in every Thursday and give massages to anyone that has signed up....sign me up every Thursday that I can!

Feb. 7/11

Welcome to my world!

Today was my 3rd treatment and it went well.  The radiologist technicians forgot my mouth guard so had to take my mask off the give it to me then.  Each "zap" is only seconds long.  There are 11 in total.  Seven on the left side, two on the right and two in the middle (of my gum line that is).

I must admit, it is kind of freaky when, at a certain point, you can look up and see yourself in the glass of the machine.  Looking back at me is a mesh mask with something coming out of the mouth...Kind of looks like something you might see in a movie - a scary movie.

My first two treatments also went well.  My first one was on Thursday, February 3.  It went well - I was expecting worse.  The techs cut the eye holes in my mask which made it much better.

My second treatment was an early surprise.  My appointment was scheduled for 3:50 on Friday but the office called me at 10:15 and told me I could go at any time.  I made a mad rush, put my stuff together, headed to the hospital and then was on the GO train to Burlington by 11:45.  Thank God for our friends, John and Diane Parsons.  They treated me like a queen this weekend.  Dana high lighted my hair and it looks great.  We had a nice quiet, relaxing weekend and it was great.

I brought the GO train back to Toronto this morning, grabbed my lunch and then was off for my treatment.

I have met a very nice new friend, Janet.  She is great and we get along very!  Nice to have friends!
